Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

At Q Sustain Ltd, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. As a dedicated consultancy providing a comprehensive range of sustainability services to the rail, built environment, and construction sectors, we lead by example in driving sustainable practices across industries.

As an ISO 14001-certified organisation, we uphold a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Our ongoing efforts to monitor and manage our carbon footprint reflect this commitment. We actively track vehicle-related emissions through a detailed Carbon Log, generating quarterly reports to maintain transparency and engagement with our employees.

While our shared office space is managed and owned by a third-party Landlord (Bruntwood), encompassing utilities such as electricity, water, heating, air conditioning, and waste management, we have taken proactive measures to calculate our share of emissions. Using occupancy-based energy consumption data, we have determined the organisation’s impact, reinforcing our comprehensive approach to carbon accountability.

Q Sustain Ltd has achieved Carbon Neutral status by employing carbon offsetting strategies and supporting Gold Standard Carbon Projects to balance our annual emissions. However, our ambition does not stop there. We are committed to advancing our sustainability journey and have set a strategic goal to become a Net Zero organisation by 2035.

Our Net Zero Plan outlines robust mechanisms and actionable steps designed to reduce our carbon footprint further, enhance operational efficiencies, and foster innovation in sustainability. Through continued collaboration with stakeholders, investment in renewable energy solutions, and rigorous carbon management strategies, we will lead the way toward a more sustainable future for both our business and the industries we serve.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past years and were produced to record our emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2022 – 2023
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
In alignment with our strong environmental commitment and our goal to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2035, Q Sustain Ltd has selected 2023 as the baseline year for measuring and tracking our carbon emissions. This baseline will serve as the foundation for evaluating our progress and implementing effective carbon reduction strategies.
Operating within a shared office space, we have adopted an occupancy-based approach to estimate both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. By calculating emissions proportional to our energy consumption from a shared office and occupancy levels, we ensure an accurate representation of our operational impact.
To address Scope 3 emissions, we leverage our ISO 14001-certified Transportation Carbon Log, which tracks carbon emissions associated with employee commuting and business travel. This comprehensive approach to carbon accounting allows us to identify key areas for reduction and advance our commitment to sustainable practices.
The waste generated by our operations is minimal, as most tasks are conducted digitally, significantly reducing paper usage. The primary sources of waste within the office/operations are food waste and food packaging from employees. The quantity of this waste is estimated and accounted for using the emission factors issued by the UK Government.

Emissions reduction targets

Recognising that our growth in employees and projects will naturally increase our emissions, we are determined to implement impactful measures to minimise our environmental footprint. Our Net Zero strategy focuses on proactive initiatives designed to reduce emissions across key operational areas while fostering a culture of sustainability within the organisation.

In 2023, Q Sustain Ltd had an employee strength of 3, resulting in per capita carbon emissions of 0.530 tCOâ‚‚e. By 2025, our team expanded to 5 members, with per capita emissions increasing slightly to 0.939 tCOâ‚‚e due to the growth in operations and associated carbon activities, mainly in overseas trips and site surveys that increased our transport emissions. As we continue to grow, we are focused on implementing robust carbon management strategies to drive down emissions per employee while maintaining sustainable business growth.

By 2026, we aim to introduce a cycle-to-work scheme to promote more sustainable commuting and reduce travel-related emissions. Additionally, we will encourage further use of public transport to further mitigate our carbon footprint from employee travel. To enhance awareness and drive behavioural change, Carbon Literacy Training will be provided to all staff, empowering them with knowledge to make environmentally responsible decisions.

We plan to incentivise the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by offering leasing options to employees by 2027, supporting the transition to cleaner transportation. Finally, we will annually offset any residual emissions by supporting Gold Standard carbon projects, ensuring our carbon impact is fully neutralised as we continue to advance towards our Net Zero goal.

We project that our per capita carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 0.400 tCO2e by 2030. This is a reduction of 42.59%.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2023 baseline.

In 2025, Q Sustain Ltd implemented several key initiatives to actively reduce our carbon footprint and advance towards our Net Zero target. We prioritised the increased use of public transport for all site visits, surveys, and client meetings wherever feasible, minimising travel-related emissions. Additionally, we transitioned our vehicle fleet from hybrids to fully electric vehicles, significantly lowering our Scope 1 emissions and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable transportation.

Furthermore, we engaged in constructive discussions with our building’s landlord, presenting proposals to enhance energy efficiency and further decarbonise the shared office space.

These efforts reflect our proactive approach to sustainability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, laying a strong foundation for achieving long-term carbon reduction goals.

Future Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Looking ahead, Q Sustain Ltd is committed to implementing additional measures to further reduce our carbon footprint and enhance our sustainability efforts. A key future initiative is relocating to a carbon-neutral office space, aligning our operations more closely with our Net Zero ambitions. We will also strengthen our support for clients by providing comprehensive guidance and solutions for their decarbonisation strategies, helping them achieve their own sustainability targets.

In transportation, we aim to transition fully, ensuring that all vehicles used across our staff are electric, eliminating reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, we plan to actively participate in tree planting programmes, contributing to natural carbon sequestration and biodiversity. Ultimately, our vision extends beyond neutrality—we aspire to become a carbon-positive organisation, exceeding the required offset levels and making a net-positive impact on the environment.
