The South Bank, an undiscovered part of London is undergoing a major transformation. The area will become an ultra-modern, exciting destination in central London offering 20,000 new homes, 25,000 new jobs, new schools, parks, culture, and the arts. We were tasked to understand and advise on the complex construction environment.

The Challenge

The Nine Elms Point development site is set across seven distinct buildings of varying height and architecture. Nine Elms Point comprises of 593 apartments, most with a balcony or terrace offering occupants views over a landscaped podium.

Each of the seven buildings contain facades that are finished with a distinct metallic surface intended and designed to form a ‘striking appearance’ defined by Architects Broadway Malyan, especially in the day’s sunlight. However, the development is next to a busy railway line for trains running frequently between
Vauxhall Station and Battersea.

Our Solution

Q Sustain was kindly approached by Barratt Developments London to provide advice and consultancy to identify any potential risks the façade from the buildings may create to a live adjacent operational rail located to the North of the development, covering the Network Rail interface with the Asset Protection
team.
